A new headline, Linux Systems Engineer, and every page, the CV and its PDF matched to the new CV.

Spacing is now the same across the site: sections are 64px apart (40 on phones), and cards in a grid 20px apart, on the home page, About, Projects, the case studies, the CV and Contact. Home page's role card: on computers Read more is as tall as the facts beside it
Contact: the day panel is now one bar in your time, with Start and Stop flags pointing at where my hours begin and end, the hours we overlap solid, and your working day bracketed under it; above it my time now, whether I'm working, and one line on how much of your day I cover; under it Compare with and the same as two facts. Opening Compare with no longer jumbles the panel, and Auckland's time zone now shows as UTC+13

Timeline: clicking a project's dot, or the Incident Response dot, now opens its case study with one ripple: the dot's ring, in its colour, grows across the screen with the case study showing inside it. The Incident Response card now reads 'Recognised by the CEO for incident response.', and Martin's 'you have set a precedent' comment is now in that case study's outcome instead of a hidden toast; About's Incident Response entry links to it too
Timeline: the dots' rings are quicker and ease out, fast to slow: a click sends out a ring in under a second, and the Incident Response dot rings quickly with a pause between rings
CV on phones: How I work is now one panel with a row for each way of working, the name as a small cyan label over its line, instead of four small cards two by two
On phones: the typed line on the home page now fills the width of its card, and the typed headings on About, Contact and Projects stay on one line; the home page's What I do no longer has the facts grid (the closing box still has them); Read more is now the same button as View CV; and the 'you have set a precedent' toast is wider, so it wraps at most once

CV tools: Kubernetes is gone from Run on; its two pictures (the Kubernetes Dashboard and a cluster's parts, with their sources) are now in the Certified Kubernetes Administrator (CKA) panel, on the CV and the home page. The panel has a close button in its top right corner, since on a phone it now fills nearly the whole screen
CV: the headline under my name now reads Cybersecurity Platform Engineer (the official title at Nclose is unchanged); Nclose's groups now run delivery and leadership, then infrastructure and automation, then platform and observability, then data pipelines; and the deployments line now reads 'for international and national enterprises and government in consumer finance, higher education, oil and gas, retail and hospitality'
Home page on phones: the career bar now has a dot for each award and top project (Orca Security pipeline, EVTX ingestion, Ubuntu to Debian migration and OpenSearch toolkit). Every few seconds the dots grow and settle one after another, left to right, until you tap one; tap a dot and a highlights list eases open under the bar with that one picked out. The awards' and the CKA's green is now brighter (#1bf800 on dark, a deeper green of the same hue on light)
About page: The story now tells the same story as the home page's timeline, year by year: every job, project, award and the CKA under a heading for its year, each with a dot in its timeline colour (the CKA hollow, still to come), its kind and month, a title and a line. Projects open their case study and awards carry a star. On a computer the year sits in a column on the left; on a phone it sits above its items
Home page's timeline: a dot's card now fills exactly the block of the strip under it, from just under Afrihost and Nclose to the strip's bottom, and says the same thing in fewer words so it fits at the normal size
CV tools on phones: each button's logo now sits at its left edge with the name centred in the button. On the narrowest phones, a long name centres in the space right of its logo instead
Home page's role card: the timeline's awards are now green like the CKA and its projects cyan; a dot's card now opens under the bar and fills the block (or blocks) of the strip below it, ending level with the strip; and the What I do, Off the clock and About titles are in the accent, like the figures' titles
Home page's role card on tablets and computers: the title and company are gone and the career bar is now a timeline across the whole card, from finishing school to the CKA exam, with a coloured dot for every project, job, award and certification (no legend; each colour is one kind). CV: the Certified Kubernetes Administrator (CKA) under Certifications now opens the same panel as the home page (what Kubernetes is, what the CKA proves and the exam date), with a dotted underline and an info icon to show it can be pressed. Home page's first screen: the command line now types one line, 'I build and maintain cybersecurity platforms', once and then stays still, instead of looping through four sayings. Under the intro, four facts a recruiter screens for: open to fully remote roles, Australian citizen, 08:00 to 20:00 SAST and one month's notice
CV tools on tablets and computers: Map and Sections is now a simple toggle. The CV always opens on Sections and no longer remembers your last pick, and about a second after the page loads the Map button glows once so it's easy to spot
CV tools: Grafana, Zabbix, VMware vSphere, Netskope and Orca Security now show images in their panels too, from their own docs and sites, so every tool but the languages and the API collectors has pictures
CV tools: each tool's panel now shows real images of it from its own docs (screenshots and diagrams, each whole in one frame, never cropped or stretched): click the image, the arrows or the dots, or swipe, to see the next one. Languages show a hello world instead, and the 'What it is' and 'How I use it' headings are replaced by one short paragraph on what the tool is and where it's used. On phones the panel uses more of the width
Home page's role card on tablets and computers: each figure is centred in its box, the label above it, the number and the lines under it, and the search and log platform's three figures sit evenly spaced. Between 768 and 1023 pixels wide the card keeps two figures side by side with the platform under them, so every number fits centred
CV tools: switching between Map and Sections is smoother. Each logo now flies with its chip around it, so nothing pops in when it lands, they all land together in about half a second instead of trickling in, and the rest of the CV glides to its new place instead of jumping
CV page on computers: the sheet is now as wide as every other page's content, lining up with the header, the footer and the home page's role card, instead of sitting narrower in the middle. Phones and the PDF are unchanged
CV tools: the pipeline now sits under one heading, 'Working with big data', so its steps no longer each say 'data' ('1 · Pull', '2 · Ship' and so on)
CV tools on tablets and computers: the sections view is now one line per section, its name on the left and its tools as smaller pills only as wide as their names, in one card for the pipeline and one for what sits underneath it; about a third shorter, with every line the same height and every pill the same gap apart. Footer: the big houghton.rocks now runs exactly from the left edge of the signature to the right edge of the icons, on every screen, so it sits centred on the page instead of off to one side

Footer: the About, Projects, CV and Contact links are gone (the header has them), and on computers my name and title are larger, with a little space between them, so together they stand as tall as the handwritten signature beside them

No repeats, part two: the typed line under the big heading now says how I work ('Every change has a way back', 'If I've done it twice, I script it', 'Root cause, not just the symptom', 'Fully remote for over a year') instead of repeating the role card; the CV summary is two plain sentences without the figures; the migration case study is about the migration only (the IP rollback has its own); case study summaries say something their title, tags and sections don't; the OpenSearch case study's problem is one line; and the home and About cards drop 'Nclose (Integrity360)'

CV page: on computers the sheet is a quarter wider, with the text filling it; phones and the PDF download are unchanged
Name: the names slide apart smoothly again when the page loads (a later effect had turned the slide into a jump), the shine sweeps across the name once after it's written in, not on hover or click, and clicking the name pops it up 2px and back in time with its tap sound (instead of a slow lift while held)
Page switches on phones: the slide no longer stutters, the Projects page included. What slides is now just the screen, not a picture of the whole page (over 9,000 pixels tall on a phone, which its graphics chip couldn't redraw smoothly); the header, terminal, read aloud bar and toasts hold still above it. Everything on the incoming page also holds still until it has slid in, the home page's tech strip pauses for the slide, the home page's heading no longer fades in again after a slide (the slide is its entrance), and the phone menu closes whenever the page changes, including from the name or the terminal
Terminal on phones: the keyboard no longer pops up. The prompt keeps its blinking cursor but stays closed to the on-screen keyboard; the tap commands and the key bar do the work, with a new run key (the highlighted return arrow) that runs a command recalled with the up key. Every command in help has a button (eggs last), wrapped so all are in view; cat shows the CV text and open goes to the page of the folder you're in
CV and role card on phones (tablets and computers are unchanged): linked bullets read as plain text with a short 'Case study' link after them instead of a long underlined run; a job's group headings and dates are 12px with the dates in a brighter grey and the location no longer italic; the header facts fit in two rows; the long OpenSearch and Docker pills show just the name (the popup still has the details, now including ISM and ILM and the custom Puppet modules); and skills spacing is tighter (868px down to 746px tall)

The tool that got me noticed when I applied to Nclose.

In plain terms

Afrihost is an internet and hosting provider. I started there on the support desk in 2021, answering customers over WhatsApp about fibre, ADSL, mobile data, web hosting and email.

The same hosting questions came in all day. Answering one properly meant checking several things by hand: the domain's DNS records (which tell the internet where a site and its email live), the spam filter, how full the mailbox was, the server's disk space and the website itself.

The problem

The same hosting queries came in all day, and each one meant checking DNS, email and the website by hand before a consultant could answer.

What I did

I wrote a Python command-line tool that ran full service triage against a client's domain in one pass: DNS and MX records, spam filter status, mailbox usage against its allocation, cPanel disk space, security scans and basic WordPress troubleshooting. It could also unlock email accounts wrongly flagged as spam and migrate cPanel accounts.

It then printed the exact steps the client needed to take, ready to paste straight back into the support chat.

The outcome

About 10 consultants on the support floor adopted it, improving consistency and resolution time on hosting queries.
